Things I'll Never Tell You in a Reading — Even If Spirit Shows Me
May 05, 2026
There's a question I get asked more than almost any other: "What do mediums see that they don't tell us?"
It's a fair question. And after 20 years of doing this work, I've come to believe the answer reveals more about good mediumship than the readings themselves do.
Because what a medium doesn't say is just as important as what she does.
Mediumship is a sacred role. People come to us at the rawest moments of their lives — after losing a parent, a partner, a child, a friend. They sit across from me, carrying grief that's barely held together with tape. And they trust me, often a stranger, to translate something that matters more to them than almost anything else in the world.
That kind of trust deserves a kind of care that I think doesn't get talked about enough in this industry.
So today, I want to walk you through it — gently — from my side of the chair.
1. I won't tell you when you're going to die.
I just won't. Even if I sense it. Even if Spirit shows me clearly. Even if you ask me directly.
Because here's the thing — knowing it doesn't change it. All it does is steal the time you have left and replace it with dread. It robs you of the ordinary Tuesdays. It robs you of the cup of tea, the unhurried walk, the laughter that comes when you're not constantly looking over your shoulder.
The same goes for when someone close to you is going to pass. That weight is mine to carry quietly, never yours to inherit prematurely.
2. I won't give you a specific medical diagnosis.
Medium often picks up on health information. We sense pain, areas of concern, and energy that feels stuck. And there's a place for that — when something feels off, I'll gently say "please get this looked at by a professional."
But I will never name a condition. I'm not qualified to. And the responsibility of suggesting someone has cancer, or a heart condition, or anything else specific — that responsibility belongs to a doctor. Not a medium.
A good medium knows the edge of her seat and stays inside it.
3. I won't share the graphic details of how someone passed.
When loved ones who died traumatically come through — sudden accidents, illness, suicide, anything frightening — they often want to communicate that they were okay. That it wasn't as bad as you imagined. That they're at peace now.
What I'll confirm is the energy of the passing. "It was sudden. It didn't last. They weren't alone."
What I won't pass on is the sensory, graphic detail of the moment itself. The trauma of dying belonged to the soul who experienced it — and they've already moved through it. Asking the living to relive it serves no one. Especially not the person grieving.
4. I won't read someone who hasn't consented.
This one comes up often. Someone arrives in a reading and asks about their boyfriend, their estranged sister, their mother-in-law, or their ex.
The honest truth is that the person hasn't sat down with me. They haven't agreed to have their energy read or their story told. And every soul, even the difficult ones, deserves the dignity of consent.
So I'll work with what you are bringing to the reading. I'll work with your loved ones in spirit who have stepped forward. But I won't go fishing in someone else's energy without their permission.
5. I won't make predictions designed to keep you coming back.
This is the most important thing I want you to read in this entire post.
There are people in this industry who plant fear deliberately. "There's a curse on your family." "There's a dark presence around you." "You'll need three more sessions to clear this." These are not readings. They are manipulation tactics dressed up in spiritual language, and they prey on people at the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
A real reading should never leave you afraid. It should never leave you feeling like you have to come back to be okay. It should never make you feel smaller, weaker, or more dependent than when you walked in.
If you've ever experienced a reading like that — I'm so sorry. It wasn't your fault for trusting the room you were in. But please know it wasn't a real reading. And it wasn't Spirit speaking.
What a real reading actually does
A real reading should leave you feeling lighter. More held. More yourself.
It should give you back the parts of your story you'd lost. It should hand you your power, gently, with both hands. It should remind you that the people you love are still close — and that you, the living one, are still allowed to live.
You should leave knowing more about who you are. Not less.
How to know if you're sitting with the right medium
If you're choosing a reader, here's what I'd quietly look for:
- They listen more than they perform. A good medium doesn't dazzle. She translates.
- They tell you what they don't know. Honesty about uncertainty is a sign of integrity.
- They never plant fear. Not about your future, not about your relationships, not about "energies" you need cleansed.
- They give you tools, not dependencies. You should leave feeling like you can keep walking on your own.
- They respect your loved ones in spirit. The dead are people too. They deserve dignity.
The work I've quietly committed to
For 20 years, this is the seat I've sat in. Quietly. Without the showmanship that some parts of this industry have leaned into.
I've made mistakes. I've learned. I've sat across from grief that has shaped me as much as it has shaped the people I've worked with.
And what I know for certain is this — mediumship done well is one of the most beautiful, healing forms of work in the world. And mediumship done badly causes harm that takes years to undo.
If you're choosing to sit with a medium, please choose carefully. The right one will give you a piece of yourself back. The wrong one will leave you carrying something that was never yours to begin with.
You deserve the right one. 🤍
