Four simple practices I use when my mind feels busy and my energy feels heavy.
I thought I’d share something a little more practical with you today.
After almost 20 years of working with energy, healing and Spirit, I’ve collected lots of little practices that help me when I feel mentally full, energetically heavy or simply not quite like myself. And they’re usually much simpler than people expect.
You don’t need an hour-long meditation or a perfect spiritual routine.
Sometimes five minutes is enough to interrupt the noise and bring yourself back into your own space.
So if you’re reading this and feeling a little scattered today, try these with me.

1. The 30-second hum
Close your eyes if it feels comfortable.
Take a breath in through your nose and, as you breathe out, gently hum.
Feel the vibration through your chest, throat and face.
Repeat it three or four times.
I love this one because it gets you out of your head very quickly. The long exhale naturally slows things down, and the vibration gives your mind something physical to focus on.
Don’t try to achieve anything. Just notice how you feel afterwards.

2. The “Is this mine?” check
This is one I use a lot when my mood suddenly changes.
Put both feet on the floor and ask yourself: “Was I feeling this an hour ago?”
Then: “What happened between then and now?”
Did you speak to somebody who was upset?
Walk into a busy room that was negative?
Spend half an hour scrolling?
Read something that unsettled you?
This isn’t about deciding every uncomfortable feeling belongs to somebody else. It’s simply about becoming aware of when your state changed.
That awareness is incredibly useful when you’re sensitive to people and environments.

3. Brush the day away
This might sound a little strange if you’ve never done energy work before, but try it.
Starting at your shoulders, gently brush your hands down your arms, chest and body as though you’re brushing dust from your clothes.
As you do it, breathe out slowly and think: “I release what I don’t need to carry.”
Do it a few times. For me, the physical action helps mark the end of something: a difficult conversation, a busy day, a reading, or simply too much stimulation.
Sometimes our mind needs a clear little signal that says: We’re finished with that now.

4. Come back to your own energy
Sit quietly for a minute and imagine your attention coming back from everywhere you’ve placed it today.
The conversations.
The phone.
The worries.
The people you’ve been thinking about.
The things you still need to do.
Imagine all of that attention returning to you.
Then place your hand over your heart or stomach and say: “I’m here. I’m back with myself.”
Take three slow breaths. That’s it.
No huge ritual. No trying to force yourself into a different mood. Just a moment of returning.

Over the years, I’ve learned that taking care of your energy doesn’t mean fearing everyone else’s. Actually, it’s quite the opposite for me.
The more I understand my own energy, the easier it becomes to recognize when I’m tired, overwhelmed, or just in need of a reset. I believe this is such a vital part of spiritual growth: being genuine with ourselves instead of constantly aiming for a “high vibe' or pretending difficult emotions don’t exist. It’s about becoming more aware of who we are.
So, why not try these four simple exercises today and see which one your body responds best to?
You might be amazed at how much can change in just five peaceful minutes. 🤍
With love,
Michelle
